Transformer

The device that steps household power down to the safe 12 volts a low-voltage system uses.

A transformer is the heart of a low-voltage lighting system, the device that steps your home standard 120-volt line power down to the safe 12 volts the fixtures run on. Mounted on a wall near an outdoor outlet, it also houses the controls that switch the system on and off, often an astronomical timer, a photocell, or both. Sizing it correctly matters: the transformer must supply enough total wattage for every fixture plus headroom, and multiple voltage taps help compensate for voltage drop on longer runs. A quality, properly sized transformer keeps brightness even and gives a system room to grow. We specify and wire it to match the full design and any planned future expansion.
