Line-Voltage

Standard 120-volt household power, higher voltage than typical low-voltage outdoor systems.

Line-voltage refers to the standard 120-volt power that comes directly from your home electrical panel, the same voltage that runs ordinary outlets and appliances. Some outdoor lighting, especially certain bright security or commercial fixtures, runs at line-voltage, but it requires conduit, deeper burial, and code-compliant installation because the higher voltage carries real shock and fire risk if mishandled. Most residential landscape lighting instead uses a transformer to step this power down to a safer low-voltage 12-volt level. Understanding the difference matters when planning a system: low-voltage is safer and more flexible to install and adjust, while line-voltage demands a licensed approach. We design primarily in low-voltage for safety and easy future changes.
