Beam Spread / Beam Angle
How wide a fixture throws its light, measured in degrees from narrow spot to broad flood.
Beam spread, or beam angle, is the width of the cone of light a fixture produces, measured in degrees. A narrow spot of 10 to 15 degrees concentrates a tight, punchy beam ideal for tall trees or a single architectural detail, while a wide flood of 40 to 60 degrees blankets a broad facade or canopy in even light. Choosing the right beam is the heart of good lighting design: it controls how much of an object you reveal and how soft the edges feel. We match beam spread to the size of the target and its distance, often layering a narrow uplight with a wider wash for depth.
