IP Rating
A two-digit code rating how well a fixture resists dust and water intrusion.
An IP rating, short for Ingress Protection, is a standardized two-digit code that tells you how well a fixture is sealed against solids and liquids. The first digit, from 0 to 6, rates protection against dust and debris, and the second, from 0 to 8, rates protection against water, from light splashing up to full submersion. For landscape lighting, fixtures should carry a high rating because they live outdoors year-round in rain, sprinklers, and snow; a well light set in a drainable grade, for instance, may face standing water and needs strong sealing. We specify weather-rated, properly gasketed fixtures so your system survives the seasons without moisture failures.
